Don’t Miss Your Best Opportunity!

You likely have come to our website because of an interest in the Santa Monica Mountains – and more than that, you’re here because you care about these mountains, its beaches, trails, wildlife, and so much more.  That you reached this particular page, makes it apparent that you’re more than a bystander, ready to translate feelings into action.  One of the Fund’s primary purposes is to provide an opportunity for everyone and any one to move beyond consumer and taker, toward steward and donor.  We support the National Park Service and others in the mission to conserve the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.  But we believe the job needs more than just rangers – ultimately the future of the mountains depends on everyone’s effort.

So we would urge you to Do Something, and the Santa Monica Mountains Fund exists to Help:  You can Donate,  Volunteer,  Join Up,  Learn How to Live Light on the Land, and above all else,  Visit and Enjoy.  Our website is intended to help you do that — And you can begin today by Donating to the Fund.

samoyouthFor the past 16 years a few outstanding, college-bound youth from under-served communities in Los Angeles and Oxnard have won places to work with the National Park Service for the summer in paid positions.

2016 was no different as 22 young people joined the program. During their time with NPS they collected 5,000 native plant seeds, built a 600-foot ranch fence, met 1,800 visitors, re-potted 500 plants and worked on a 1.5 mile section of the Backbone Trail.

This year the Santa Monica Mountains Fund partnered with NPS to deliver the program.  Your support allowed us to cover the costs needed to manage payroll, source workers comp, manage health insurance, organize a briefings day and even buy a cake for their culmination event!

So thank you for your support – it makes all the difference.  Because of you, 22 young people have had a life-changing opportunity, learned valuable skills and have a greater appreciation for the Santa Monica Mountains!
