Case Study: Gopher Study

When a newly planted Thousand Oaks backyard sustained severe damage from gophers over a one year period, the homeowner was advised to use root cages when re-planting.

Instead of resorting to rodenticide, the homeowner acted on this advice and has found this approach to be effective, “Using the root cages couldn’t be simpler.  I simply inserted the root ball into the wire mesh pockets and planted as normal. One month on the plants are thriving and have not been attacked by gophers.”

Root cages are made of malleable wire mesh and manufactured in a range of gallon size pockets for all types of plants. They are available online and at hardware stores.
