It’s a double celebration! It’s 40 years since the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area was established following a concerted local campaign to save the mountains from development and legislation introduced by Congressman Anthony C. Beilenson to establish the park. And it’s 30 years since the Fund was set up as the Santa Monica Mountains Parklands Association formed by concerned citizens to represent the interests of the public in the development of parklands and recreation opportunities within the mountains.
(If you are on your cell-phone and would like to purchase tickets make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom!)
Today, the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is the largest urban national park in the United States hidden in plain site from Los Angeles and a vital area of open space for the 17 million people that live within a one hour drive of the mountains.
None of this could have been achieved without our local community connecting, working together and wanting to look after the mountains. We are so grateful to all of you!
On June 3rd we’ll celebrate everything we have done together and look ahead to the next generation of park stewards. So, join us and be part of the festivities!
Upcoming indie rock duo Hyps (Molly Falck and Keena Batti) will entertain the gathering. As local performers, they regularly play live around the L.A. area, including regular gigs at the Old Place in Agoura Hills and have appeared as part of the Tiny Porch Concert series at Peter Strauss Ranch. Their delightful first single Beneath the Shadow of the King is both upbeat and moody. With echoes of the 60s fold scene in Greenwich Village and hints of the medieval, their sound is polished and original.
And if you want to support our event, find out here how you can partner with us and help make our Celebration a success!
